About the teacher
A quiet, direct path.
Martine Batchelor trained for several years as a Zen nun in Korea under Master Kusan Sunim before moving toward independent, largely secular teaching alongside her husband Stephen Batchelor. She teaches on donation, drawing on both her formal Seon training and later Insight-oriented practice, with recurring themes of doubt as a legitimate part of practice.
She teaches mainly in Europe, currently caring for her mother, and leads a 2026 retreat titled 'Mindfulness and Beyond' on the seven factors of awakening through Bodhi College, an online half-day retreat with New York Insight in March 2026, and a module within the Committed Practitioners Programme.
