Nature's Lessons in Healing Trauma: An Introduction to Somatic Experiencing®
Levine introduces Somatic Experiencing, his body-based approach to healing trauma.
Mindfulness · Somatic Experiencing
American developmental psychologist and founder of Somatic Experiencing, a body-based approach to trauma healing.
Peter Levine developed Somatic Experiencing, a body-based approach to trauma that works with the nervous system's physiological response to threat rather than primarily through talk or cognitive methods, taught internationally through the Ergos Institute and Somatic Experiencing International. His work sits at the boundary of psychotherapy and contemplative body-awareness practice rather than within a specific spiritual lineage.
Now in his mid-eighties, he keeps a lighter public schedule focused on masterclasses and demonstrations, including a case consultation in San Diego in February 2026 (also livestreamed) and a workshop in Australia, alongside an autobiography, An Autobiography of Trauma, published in 2024–2025.
