Insight Meditation · Insight Meditation
Clinical psychologist and teacher who trained as a monk in the Thai Forest tradition before co-founding the Insight Meditation Society and Spirit Rock.
Jack Kornfield trained as a Buddhist monk in the Thai Forest tradition under Ajahn Chah before returning to the United States and becoming, alongside Joseph Goldstein and Sharon Salzberg, one of the founding teachers who brought Vipassana meditation to a Western lay audience. He later trained as a clinical psychologist, and much of his subsequent teaching works to bridge classical Buddhist practice with Western psychological understanding.
He continues to teach at Spirit Rock, including the long-running Monday Night Meditation & Talk, and leads the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program together with Tara Brach.
