About the teacher

JoAnna Hardy

JoAnna Hardy teaches insight (vipassana) meditation with a particular focus on communities addressing racism, gender inequality and oppression. She is a founding member and teacher at the Meditation Coalition, a visiting retreat teacher at Insight Meditation Society, faculty at the University of Southern California, and a meditation trainer for Apple Fitness+.

She co-authored Teaching Mindfulness to Empower Adolescents with Matthew Brensilver and Oren Jay Sofer, and teaches silent retreats, social-justice-based meditation classes, workshops and youth programs.

Mettā is probably the most difficult practice there is. It's such a great truth teller. It really asks us to push edges and to look at the deepest parts of ourselves — those that may have been neglected, denied, abandoned.
