About the teacher

A quiet, direct path.

A.H. Almaas (the pen name of A. Hameed Ali, born 1944) developed the Diamond Approach over several decades, combining elements of Sufism, Buddhism and other contemplative traditions with Western psychological understanding of ego development and object relations. The method works closely with a student's specific psychological material as the ground for spiritual inquiry, rather than treating psychology and spirituality as separate domains.

Most current teaching runs through Diamond Approach Online, including a book talk on The Inner Beloved on 13 March 2026, and a joint course in autumn 2026 with fellow teachers Karen Johnson and Jessica Britt.
